Silicon carbide (SiC) is a promising material for micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) due to its mechanical and electrical advantages over well-known silicon MEMS. This work is part of a project sponsored by EPSRC in co-operation with Newcastle University, Edinburgh University, and the Scottish Microelectronic Centre (UK) and CWRU (USA). The book highlights relevant previous work in SiC MEMS and presents a model for SiC resonators, Fabrication and characterisation of SiC resonators. ANSYS (FEA tool) was used as a modeling tool. The book also presents high temperature measurements using electrostatically actuated SiC device which was fabricated for this purpose. Results obtained from frequency measurements at high temperatures are used to calculate the Young’s modulus temperature coefficient for 3C-SiC. Economic evaluations are increasingly being used to inform decision makers regarding the allocation of scarce health care resources. In reimbursement applications to the Norwegian Drug Reimbursement Scheme the cost-utility analysis (CUA) is a common feature, expressing the cost-effectiveness of a treatment. Norwegian Medicines Agency (NoMA), which administers the scheme, is interested in supplementing the existing dossier with measurements of the conditions severity level. During their work on revising the pharmacoeconomic guidelines they identified a lack of empirical studies concerning severity measures. The objective is to find out how to operationalize severity measurements in a Norwegian context and investigate the implications of the included severity measures; providing a contribution to the discussion of severity level in Norway.

This study aims is to discover the best methods for geometry students to master proof writing. Students who are taught how to write proofs in a traditional setting find proofs to be very difficult. Studies have been conducted regarding the use of dynamic geometry software in proof writing. To further study the effects of proof writing using dynamic geometry software, freshmen students enrolled in an honors geometry course at a high performing suburban high school in Louisiana were given several proofs to complete, along with self-reflection surveys. During phase one of this research, twenty-four students were allowed to use Geometer’s Sketchpad while writing their proofs, while the other twenty-four students were using only paper and pencil to explore the figure involved in the proof. During phase two of testing, the control and experimental groups swapped places to uphold the equality standards of the course. Student self-reflection surveys show that some students enjoy writing…

During the past three decades, there have been considerable advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of craniomaxillofacial (CMF) injuries. Preventive legislation (speed limits, alcohol restriction, use of helmets, shoulder and seat restraints), improved road construction measures and vehicle safety modifications (safety glass, padded dash boards, stronger frames, collapsible steering columns, airbags) have led to a significant decrease in the incidence and severity of road traffic accidents (RTA) in some countries. Trauma is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality/death in children.Finally, improvements in airway, metabolic and anesthesia management have also helped to improve the outcomes for pediatric patients who suffer CMF injuries.
